Final Fantasy X

Spira was home to highly developed civilizations until 1000 years ago, when Sin first appeared. Sin is a trespasser, a scourge upon the land. It falls only to rise again, bringing chaos and destruction to Spira's technological advances.

A group of travelers from different tribes and walks of life will set aside their own beliefs to save their crying world. Together they will guard a young Summoner determined to defeat Sin at all costs.

The party journeys to the very ends of the world, visiting temples and bonding with Aeons. As the Summoner gains new strengths, she prepares to receive her 'Last Summoning', the only power that can defeat Sin and save the world.

Ahhh, the first Final Fantasy game for the PS2. Some hail it as the most beautiful game of all time. Definitely visually stimulating!

I decided it was high time we had some rules around here!

----- Rules -----

All art must be your own.
Don't steal. It's bad for the economy.


All art must be rated G - PG-13.
This means no excessive blood, gore, sex or nudity. Take this stuff in moderation. This rule will probably be judge on a case by case basis.

Canon characters only.
This means no fan characters or self-insertions unless otherwise specified. The character(s) you draw must have appeared in some incarnation of the prompt.

Can I join?
Yes! You can join! I don't care if you can only draw stick figures. If you can hold a pencil, you can join.

How do I join/sign up?
You don't need to ask my permission to join in the challenge. You just need to draw something, submit it to dA and then shoot me a note or somment or something with a link to your piece in it.

If I join, do I need to draw something for every challenge?
No! You can draw for one challenge or many! It's up to you!

What kind of art is accepted?
Pretty much any kind of art. Traditional or digital. Two-dimensional or three dimensional. Just dont... send me a picture of poop or something. Be reasonable.

Is [insert name of series/movie/comic/whatever here] in the hat? Can you add it?
I'm always open to suggestions for prompt to put in the hat. But if it's a series I haven't seen, then probably not.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Avatar: The Last Airbender (also known as Avatar: The Legend of Aang in several countries) is a multi award-winning American animated television series that airs on the Nickelodeon television network and on Nicktoons Network. The show is set in an Asian-influenced world of martial arts and elemental manipulation; the series follows the adventures of Aang and his friends, who try to save the world from war with the Fire Nation. The show's protagonist Aang is trapped in an iceberg when he is found by two members of the Southern Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka. After being freed from the iceberg, Katara and Sokka join Aang on a long journey across the globe; their ultimate goal is to help Aang acquire the skills to defeat the Fire Lord, and end the war.

The best show on television. Here or anywhere. Period. If you haven't seen this show, go and see it. It is amazing. I chose this challenge as opposed to drawing it from the hat specifically for this week since the series finale is airing this Saturday. I know my fellow avatards are out there! Get drawing!!

The challenge for this, week 6 is:

The Phantom of the Opera

First a novel by Gaston Leroux, then a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and then a film by Joel Schumacher the plot centers on a disfigured musical genius, The Phantom, tormented by his scarred face, who lives in the watery labyrinths beneath the Opera Populaire in Paris, terrorizing the opera, and committing several murders. After nearly ten years of quiet obsession with the voice of Christine Daae, a beautiful young soprano, he plots to place her center stage through threatening letters to the management and hopes to win her heart with his efforts to make her a star.

My favourite musical and story of all time, this challenge is a bit more... open than the others. In addition to being able to draw incarnations of the characters from the book, musical or even the *shudder* movie, you're also invited to draw your own interpretations of the characters, like your own characters as Christine and the Phantom or other series' characters. Something like that. Just as long as they represent the characters in the story, I'm cool.

The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda is a high fantasy action-adventure video game series created by game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and developed and published by Nintendo. The gameplay consists of a mixture of action, adventure, puzzle solving, role-playing and occasional platforming, stealth and racing elements. The series centers around Link, the main playable character and protagonist. Link is often given the task of rescuing Princess Zelda and the most common setting of the series, Hyrule, from Ganon who is the primary antagonist of the series. However other settings and antagonists have appeared throughout the games, with Vaati having recently become the series' secondary antagonist. The story commonly involves a relic known as the Triforce, a set of three golden triangles of omnipotence. The protagonist in each game is not always the same iteration of Link, although the same character sometimes appears across multiple games.

This week's challenge was drawn by the amazing *messa, who was incidently wearing a Zelda t-shirt when she drew it!! LAWL!! Now, if you haven't heard of Zelda at some point then... where the hell have you been? Seriously. It's like... THE BEST GAME SERIES EVER.

Bleach

Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki. The story opens with the sudden appearance of Rukia Kuchiki in Ichigo Kurosaki's bedroom. She is surprised at his ability to see her, but their resulting conversation is interrupted by the appearance of a "hollow", an evil spirit. After Rukia is severely wounded while trying to protect Ichigo, she intends to transfer half her powers to Ichigo, hoping to give him the opportunity to face the hollow on equal footing. Ichigo unintentionally absorbs almost all her powers instead, allowing him to defeat the hollow with ease. The next day, Rukia appears in Ichigo's classroom as a transfer student. Much to his surprise, she appears to be a normal human. She theorizes that it was the unusual strength of Ichigo's spirit that caused him to absorb almost all her powers, thus leaving her stranded in the human world. Rukia has transferred herself into a gigai — an artificial human body — while waiting to recover her abilities. In the meantime, Ichigo must take over her job as a Soul Reaper, battling hollows and guiding lost souls to Soul Society.

Quite a popular series to say the least. I've only seen a handful of episodes but pretty much everyone I know loves it. I'm going to have to get watching though. And all you lucky people who get to meet Kubo at Comic-Con this year!
